Cognitive Ergonomics Mentoring Lab

Jeff Copper with Aha BobThis program is designed to mentor ADHD coaches who completed Cognitive Ergonomics From the Inside Out® (Cog-Erg) and other professionals who want to deepen their understanding of Cog-Erg and integrate it with their coaching skills. It integrates foundational coaching skills with advanced cognitive engineering insights to help participants coach others-and themselves-more effectively.

In simple terms, it is a mentoring program to integrate Cog-Erg principles with other disciplines or skills.

Lab Format

The Cognitive Ergonomics Mentoring Lab will be a group-driven agenda customized to what is of interest in that particular group. We will basically have open conversations that could be related to business or just to lessons learned or experience. Ideally, there will be some feedback on listening to coaching calls and/or case studies brought by the individuals. So, the portion of interaction will be basically ad hoc. As a general rule we will be holding in mind the concepts below to guide us through the process.

Program Components

The program is structured around three integrated components:

1. Foundational Life Coaching Skills

This component strengthens the interpersonal, relational, and professional skills necessary for effective coaching. Key areas include:

  • Drafting the coaching agreement;
  • Learning how to define roles, boundaries, and responsibilities between coach and client;
  • Establishing expectations;
  • Clarifying what coaching is-and is not-so that clients understand the process and their role in it;
  • Mentor coaching;
  • Receiving real-time feedback on recorded coaching, understanding the importance of getting a specific coaching topic, learning to sit in the discomfort of not knowing the answer, using Cog-Erg as a listening tool to ask powerful, open-ended questions, and coaching efficiently, including:
  • Building confidence and emotional resilience;
  • Learning how to help clients sit in discomfort, work through uncertainty, and open their minds to new solutions;
  • Selecting clients and insights:
    • Learn how to evaluate client fit, understand whom you can help and whom you cannot, and learn how to recognize what clients are right for you.
  • Understanding how to use Cog-Erg as a lens:
  • Become comfortable with coaching, increase efficiency, take some of the guesswork out of coaching, use Cog-Erg knowledge to be recognized as a thought leader in the field of ADHD.

CEFIO Logo2. Cognitive Ergonomics Training

This advanced component introduces participants to a cutting-edge model of executive function coaching. It trains you to think like a cognitive engineer and apply CEFIO principles to your work.

  • Increase your proficiency at using AttentionScope®;
  • Practice and receive guidance using AttentionScope® to make factual observations and recognize intangible drivers and recognize root causes;
  • Gain cognitive engineering insights;
  • Develop the ability to see hidden causal patterns that drive behavior, motivation, procrastination, and decision-making;
  • Think like a scientist, act like a coach:
  • Approach coaching conversations like an experiment—observing, hypothesizing, and testing in real time;
  • Get feedback on your case studies;
  • Receive direct feedback and brainstorming on actual situations you and others bring to the group;
  • Increase proficiency at problem-solving;
  • Get feedback on client problems and the application of CEFIO to help clients resolve problems; and
  • Improve coaching efficiency, using coaching skills and CEFIO to accelerate supporting those in need.

3. Lessons Learned
