Here is the Aha! Organization doesn’t have to be visually pleasing!
Here’s the trick! Let go of “pretty” as the definition of organized. It isn’t what it looks like; it’s how it functions. A pile of things in front of a door might be unsightly, but if tripping over it reminds you to take what you need when you leave, then it is an effective organizational system, ugly or not.
Here’s an attention exercise. Without looking, make a list of items that are likely to be in a junk or miscellaneous drawer in your office, kitchen, chest of drawers, or bathroom. Then compare your list to the actual contents. If there are items on your list that are in that location, then it is organized even though most junk or miscellaneous drawers are an ugly mess.
A pretty good organizational system can be ugly!
